Browser games are popular because there is no step in between: you open a link and play. An app has to be found in a store, downloaded, given space and permissions, and then updated regularly. On tamashebi.cc, Nardi, domino, Joker, Japanese Joker and Bura are played only in the browser — there is no separate app. Here is why we chose that route, what you gain and lose, and when an app really is the better choice.
The download barrier
Picture it: a friend writes, "Fancy a game of Nardi?" and sends a link. If the game needs an app, you now have to open the store, find the right app among similar names, wait for the download, open it, accept the terms and perhaps register. By then your friend may no longer feel like playing. In the browser, the same link takes you straight to the table.
This matters most to people who only want to try a game. Installing an app for one round is too much for many; trying in the browser costs nothing — and if you do not like it, nothing is left on your phone.
The update problem
An app needs updating, and not everyone updates at the same time. In an online game that is a real problem: one player has the new version, the other the old one, and sometimes they cannot even play each other. In the browser the question does not arise — the site loads its latest version every time it opens, so everyone plays the same game. A rule fix or a new game reaches everyone on the same day, with no wait for store review.
That applies to the rules too. When something in a game changes — a rule common at Georgian Nardi tables is added, say, or Joker scoring is refined — the change happens on the server and applies to every table at once. Two players at the same table never play by different rules because one of them has not updated.
Memory and space on your phone
Phone storage fills up fast: photos, videos, messengers. Every app takes space and collects data over time. A browser game takes no app space of its own — it runs in the browser you already have.
- Space: nothing is installed, so it uses almost no storage — only the browser's ordinary cache.
- Permissions: a browser game does not ask for your contacts, photos or location.
- Removal: there is nothing to uninstall. If you added it to your home screen, removing the icon is enough.
- Older phones: a modern browser runs on most phones, even when the store no longer offers new apps for them.
The advantages of the browser
In the browser it is the same game on every device. Habits formed on a computer carry over to a phone, and the difference between Android and iPhone is minimal. A link is universal — in a messenger, an email or a social network — and everyone opens it the same way. An account, if you have one, works from any device. And you do not even need an account to play: guest entry asks only for a name and an avatar.
Finally, a browser game can behave like an app. tamashebi.cc has a web app manifest: add the site to your home screen and it gets its own icon and opens in a separate window without the browser's address bar. The steps for Android and iPhone are in separate articles.
The link as an invitation
The most underrated advantage of browser play is the link. A table link is an invitation and a door at once: your friend opens it and sits straight down at your table, whether they have Android, an iPhone or a computer. In an app world, the same result needs both of you to have the same app and often both of you to have accounts. In the browser, you drop the link into WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram or Viber. Put a password on the table and only the people you tell can join.
Language changes easily in the browser too. tamashebi.cc works in Georgian, English, Russian and Turkish, and each language has its own address. On a first visit the language is chosen by country, after that by whatever you pick at the foot of the page. So a friend living abroad sees the same table in their own language.
Example: one evening, three devices
- On the bus home from work, you open domino on your phone and play a round against the bot.
- At home, a friend sends a Joker table link — you open it on your computer and sit down, nothing extra needed.
- Late in the evening your brother invites you to Nardi from his tablet. Again a link, again the browser.
- All evening you installed no app and waited for no update.
Security and privacy
An app usually asks for more access to your phone: notifications, files, sometimes contacts or location. A website sees all of this only within the browser's strict limits and gets only what you grant it. tamashebi.cc asks for no phone permissions to play. Guest play needs no email, and there is no payment form on the site at all, so there is no card data to lose either.
Browser limits worth stating honestly
- You need an internet connection — there is no offline mode.
- An iPhone's browser has no full-screen mode; to lose the browser bar, add the site to your home screen.
- On a phone, Nardi is played in landscape only — the board is long.
- If you switch to another app for a long time mid-match, your phone may pause the background tab; the connection is restored when you return.
When an app is better
The browser does not always win, and it is worth saying so. An app is better if a game uses heavy 3D graphics and needs the phone's full power; if it must work offline — on a plane, say; or if you need frequent notifications and the app handles them better.
tamashebi.cc's games do not fall into those categories. Nardi, domino and cards need no heavy graphics, and live play is impossible offline anyway — your opponent connects over the internet and the server checks the moves. So the site does not promise an offline mode: you need a connection to play. In return, if the connection drops for a moment, the game stays on the server and you continue from the same position when you are back.
Frequently asked questions
- Does tamashebi.cc have an app?
- No, there is no separate app. Everything runs in the browser, and adding the site to your home screen gives you an app-like icon.
- Are browser games safe?
- A browser game does not ask for access to your photos, contacts or location. On tamashebi.cc there is also no payment form at all.
- Can I play without the internet?
- No. The games are live and run on the server, so a connection is required. A brief drop does not lose the match.
