Games on iPhone do not need the App Store: Safari is enough. On tamashebi.cc, Nardi, domino, Joker, Japanese Joker and Bura play directly in the browser — against live opponents, by Georgian rules and for free. The iPhone has its quirks: Safari has no full-screen mode, but adding the site to your home screen removes the browser bar. Below, step by step: how to start, how to use landscape and how playing on an iPhone differs from Android.
What Safari can do
Safari is a modern browser with everything a browser game needs. You open tamashebi.cc, choose a game and tap "Play now"; guest entry asks only for a name and an avatar. The game logic runs on the server, so even an older iPhone copes well — the phone only draws the board and sends your move.
On an iPhone, browsers — Chrome and the others — generally run on Safari's engine, so most of what follows applies to all of them. One limit is shared: an iPhone's browser does not let a site switch to full screen. So the Nardi table, which offers full screen on Android, simply does not show that control on an iPhone — the site does not offer what cannot work.
In return, Safari does not restrict zoom, handles gestures well and places the site correctly around the notch at the top — tamashebi.cc respects the screen's safe area, so buttons and cards are not hidden at the edges.
Landscape mode
On a phone, Nardi is played in landscape only: the board is long, and in portrait the checkers would be too small. If you hold the iPhone upright, the table asks you to turn it. Domino and Joker work either way up — in landscape the layout becomes more compact and the tiles or cards still fit.
Make sure the rotation lock is off: in Control Centre (swipe down from the top right corner) the padlock-with-arrow icon should not be active. Otherwise the iPhone stays upright and the Nardi table keeps asking you to turn it. In landscape, Safari's bar takes up space — which is why the next step is worth it.
It is also worth checking Auto-Lock: Settings, Display & Brightness, Auto-Lock. If it is set to thirty seconds, the screen locks while you wait for your opponent and Safari goes into the background. When you return the site reconnects and the match continues, but your move clock keeps running meanwhile. For long matches, two or three minutes is better.
Adding to the home screen
On an iPhone, adding the site to your home screen is the closest thing to full screen. tamashebi.cc has a web app manifest and an icon made for iPhone, so the site opened from the home screen runs in its own window, without Safari's address bar.
- Open tamashebi.cc in Safari.
- Tap the Share button — the square with an upward arrow at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll down and choose "Add to Home Screen".
- Keep or change the name, then tap "Add".
- The tamashebi.cc icon appears on your home screen — open the site from it.
The site does not pop up an offer of its own — this step is entirely your decision. If you no longer want the icon, press and hold it and choose remove; nothing is left behind. Note that the home-screen icon and Safari may keep sign-in data separately: if you played as a guest in Safari, you may be a new guest in the site opened from the icon. If you have an account, simply sign in again.
Safari settings worth knowing
- Private tab: if you play as a guest in a private tab, closing it ends the guest profile. An ordinary tab is better.
- Low Power Mode: in this mode the iPhone limits background activity. Keep the screen on while you play.
- Sound: if the iPhone's side switch is on silent, the game is silent too.
- Text size: magnification works if the type looks small — the site does not block zoom.
- Language: the site works in Georgian, English, Russian and Turkish; the switch is at the foot of the page.
How it differs from Android
- Full screen: an Android browser lets Nardi go full screen and hold the screen in landscape; an iPhone's browser does not. On an iPhone, use the home screen instead.
- Adding to the home screen: on Android from the browser menu, on iPhone from Safari's Share button.
- Browsers: on Android different browsers have different engines; on an iPhone they generally use Safari's.
- Background tabs: an iPhone pauses a background tab quickly. After switching apps mid-match, the site reconnects; the match carries on on the server meanwhile, so do not stay away long.
- Games and rules: everything else is identical — the same tables, the same opponents, the same Georgian rules. iPhone and Android owners play each other.
If something does not work
- Reload the page — with the circular arrow in Safari's address bar.
- Make sure iOS is up to date: Safari updates together with the iPhone's system.
- If the site opened from the home-screen icon behaves oddly, close it from the app switcher and open it again.
- Think before clearing Safari data: the guest profile goes with it.
- If the problem persists, write to us from the contact page with your iPhone model and iOS version.
Why not the App Store
A separate app would ask two things of an iPhone owner: a download and constant updates. The browser version needs neither — it is the same game on iPhone and Android, updated on the same day, and players meet regardless of device. A site added to the home screen is barely different from an app in everyday use.
On an iPad it is even more comfortable: the large screen easily holds the Nardi board and all four Joker players, and adding to the home screen works there just the same.
Example: Joker on an iPhone
A friend sends a Joker table link in iMessage. It opens in Safari; you type a name, pick an avatar and take the fourth seat. You turn the phone sideways — all four players and the score sheet fit on the screen. After the game, if you plan to play again, you add the site to your home screen with the Share button so Safari's bar is gone next time. You never opened the App Store.
Frequently asked questions
- Is there a tamashebi.cc app in the App Store?
- No. The games run in the browser. Adding the site to your home screen gives you an app-like icon and its own window.
- Why is there no full-screen button on my iPhone?
- An iPhone's browser does not let sites go full screen, so the site does not show the button. To play without the browser bar, add the site to your home screen.
- Can I play a friend who has Android?
- Yes. The device makes no difference — everyone plays at the same tables, from the browser.
