This is domino played with tiles — the game Georgians play in courtyards, at the dacha and around the kitchen table. Georgian domino differs from the international versions in a few rules: there is only one stavka (the hand's first double, which opens four ways) per hand, points are scored only in multiples of five, the last two tiles of the boneyard are untouchable, and a blocked board — riba — has its own count. On tamashebi.cc it is played one on one, in the browser and for free.
The rules in brief
- 28 tiles, from 0-0 to 6-6. Each player gets 7; the other 14 stay face down as the bazari (the boneyard).
- The first hand of a match is opened by whoever holds the highest double, and it must be opened with that double. Each later hand is started by the previous hand's winner, with any tile.
- A tile goes where one of its halves matches an open end. If you have a playable tile you must play it; if not, you draw one tile at a time from the bazari until you can play. The last two tiles of the bazari can never be drawn; if only they are left and you cannot play, the turn passes automatically.
- The stavka is the first double played in a hand. It has two sides at first; once both have a tile, a third and fourth side open. Every later double is an ordinary tile.
- After each tile the open ends are added up. If the total is 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 35, the player scores exactly that. On the opening tile only 5-5 scores (10 points).
- Whoever plays their last tile wins the hand and scores the opponent's remaining pips, rounded up to the next multiple of five. If the opponent holds only 0-0, the winner scores 10.
- Riba: the chain is dead, because every open end asks for a number no available tile has. The player with the lower total in hand wins and scores the loser's total, rounded up to a multiple of five; equal totals are a draw.
- The table's creator picks the target: 75, 175, 255 or 355 points. The match ends only at the end of a hand.
Three ways to start a game
- Quick game: press "Play now" and the system finds you an opponent; the match starts by itself. With an account you can choose a rated match, which counts on the rating table.
- A table with a friend: create your own table and send the link. The match starts when your friend sits down.
- The bot: to learn the rules or just practise, play the bot. It follows the same rules, has three difficulty levels and cannot see your tiles.
Playing with a friend
- Open the domino page and choose "Create table".
- Choose the target: 75 for a quick match, 175 for a normal one, 255 or 355 for a long evening.
- Pick a human opponent and "Free" as the game type. A coin match is optional and only for players with an account.
- Make the table open, so everyone sees it in the lobby, or closed. A closed table can have a password of at least four characters; leave it empty and the table can only be entered by link.
- Press "Copy link" and send it through any messenger. Your friend opens it and sits down — as a guest if they have no account.
No download and no registration are needed: to enter as a guest you choose a name and an avatar. A guest can play ordinary matches, sit at a friend's table and practise with the bot; rated matches, a friends list and coin tables need an account, and a guest account can be kept later without losing its matches. If you both have accounts and are on each other's friends lists, you can simply send a challenge, which expires in two minutes. Domino works fully in the phone browser on Android and iPhone: the board fits the screen and every place a tile fits is highlighted. If your connection drops, the match waits on the server and you carry on from the same position when you return in time.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it really free?
- Yes. Domino on tamashebi.cc is completely free. Real money plays no part anywhere on the site — no top-ups, no withdrawals.
- Does my friend need an account to join my table?
- No. After opening the link they can enter as a guest with just a name and an avatar.
- Why did my 6-4 opening not score?
- Because in Georgian domino only 5-5 scores as an opening tile (10 points). Normal counting starts with the second tile.
- Can I practise first?
- Yes. Play the bot, which has three difficulty levels, or take the interactive tutorial — it takes a few minutes.
- I searched for "domino tamashi" — is this it?
- Yes. "domino tamashi" and "domino online tamashi" are how Georgians type "domino game" in Latin letters. The direct address is tamashebi.cc/domino.
